Jay Brown

Jay and his family moved from Salem, MA to Maryville in 2009. They began attending GCC in the summer of 2009 and Jay and Patty have been fully engaged in the body of Christ since then. Jay and Patty have been married for 30+ years and both are greatly enjoying this stage of life and the blessings of God in their marriage. They have two sons that live locally: Matt (married to Abigail with twins Marc and Ansley), and Alex, who is engaged to Hannah.

Jay and Patty both love the local body of Christ at GCC and find great joy in serving the Lord here. Jay graduated the first SI (Shepherd’s Institute) class in 2014 and began serving in prison ministry, teaching Sunday School, hosting/leading fellowship groups, as a deacon, and leading the men’s prayer on Sunday morning. He became an elder in September, 2022. Jay’s passion is applying theological truths of our great God in the daily lives of believers.

One of Jay’s favorite quotes comes from J.I. Packer: “If our theology does not quicken the conscience and soften the heart, it actually hardens both; if it does not encourage the commitment of faith, it reinforces the detachment of unbelief; if it fails to promote humility, it inevitably feeds pride.”

We have a great Savior who proclaims His work on our behalf and we can be confident that we are his. My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. –1 John 2:1–3.
